Welcome to the Borden Wellness Center!  My name is Adrienne Borden, and I’ve lived in Sarasota, Florida for my entire life.  I’ve been an acupuncture physician for 15 years, and over that time span I’m asked quite often what led me to Chinese Medicine, so this is my story.

From the time I was born, to well into my teens, it seemed I was always sick.  Plagued with ear infections as a small child, I was on antibiotics frequently and still remember lying on my mother’s lap with a heating pad pressed to my ear.  I was out of school quite a bit due to various chest ailments, and always tired.  As I got older, I was sick every month with tonsillitis, sinusitis and ear infections, with constant visits to the doctor and the ER-once because my eardrum actually ruptured due to an infection.  Antibiotic upon antibiotic I was given, until my immune system started to fail completely since I had been on various medications for years.  At 18 years old, my parents were given the option of putting me in the hospital.  Instead, they took me to an acupuncturist!  A completely different experience, he spent a great deal of time with me, actually looking for the cause of all my illness instead of just treating the symptoms.  Treating me holistically, I was given acupuncture, herbs, and vitamins, as well as an education on what to do should I start to become sick again.

I am happy to say from that day on I got better and better.  My immune system recovered, and I stopped getting sick.  The cycle was finally broken!  Three years later,  a friend mentioned an acupuncture school here in Sarasota. I had no idea you could actually go to school to be an acupuncturist here in the States! I immediately knew that it was what I was meant to do, and here I am, 18 years later!

I have truly appreciated what this path to health has brought me-a place I love to go to, working with patients that I learn from every day, and being witness to the miracles of healing that the human body can perform. I love to educate my patients and be a partner for them in healing.  I have been so fortunate in being given the chance for a new life, and I want to share that opportunity with others.  You can have the health and life you deserve-try acupuncture and give your body the chance it needs to heal itself!
