How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture has helped billions of people and has been the primary healthcare system in China for more than 2,500 years. This system of healthcare is based on the principle that to be healthy, tissues and organs need a proper supply of blood, oxygen, and nutrients that the blood carries. Over 1,000 points have been mapped that indicate where a block in the flow of blood can occur. These blockages result in pain and illness.
The best analogy to acupuncture would be that of a plant that is not getting enough water. If you tried to water a plant with a hose that had a kink in it, the plant would die. If you remove the blockage, the plant will recover.
The same thing happens in our bodies. Due to physical stress (accidents, trauma), chemical stress (toxicity in our food and environment, pharmaceutical drugs), and emotional stress (worry, irritability, etc.), the body stops functioning correctly and we become ill.
Oriental Medicine pinpoints where the blockages are in your body, and then uses the proper placement of painless, sterile needles to stimulate the flow of blood and oxygen to your cells, organs, and tissues, so that they can heal. The needles are so thin that they do not stimulate enough nerve endings to cause any discomfort. Instead, most patients report a tingling or heaviness sensation, along with a deep sense of relaxation.
A specific course of treatment is recommended for each patient depending upon the duration and severity of illness.
As a physician of acupuncture, Adrienne Borden’s purpose is to use her extensive knowledge of Oriental Medicine and alternative therapies to help as many people as possible live healthy, happy lives.
